8)Pumped storage power stations built by POWERCHINA
The Xilongchi Pumped Storage Power Station, designed by POWERCHINA, with a maximum lift of 700 m, is the highest single-stage mixed-flow pumped storage power station, in terms of lift.
The Tianhuangping Pumped Storage Power Station already in operation, equipped with single-stage reversible pump-turbine units, has an installed capacity of 300 MW, and a design head of 610 m and an overall efficiency of up to 80.6 percent, which are up to world standard.
POWERCHINA leads the world in project layout, seepage control in reservoir basins, and design of high pressure bifurcated pipe for pumped storage power stations.

9) Environmental Protection in Hydropower
POWERCHINA has conducted researches in many areas, such as environmental impact on aquatic and terrestrial animals, water quality protection, river evolution and sedimentation, human landscape, geological environment, excavation and protection of historical relics, and resettlement, and has achieved a number of results and built a lot of environmentally friendly hydroelectric projects.

10) Compilation of Technical standards and codes for Hydropower Investigation and Design
In the area of technical standards and codes for investigation and design of hydropower industry, POWERCHINA has been charged with responsibilities for administration of technologies for hydropower investigation and design sector and has been a leading unit in formulating and revising technical codes and standards for hydropower development. POWERCHINA formulated, revised and updated a full range of 260 national and industrial standards, including the Reliability Standard for Designing Hydraulic Engineering Structures, the Classification and Design Safety Standards for Hydropower Projects, and others on hydropower and wind power planning, investigation, reservoirs, environmental protection, hydraulic structures, construction work, cost estimates, mechanical and electrical work, and safety monitoring and management. These standards and codes have played a very important role in China’s hydropower development and POWERCHINA is a sponsoring institution in the technical committee for the standardization of hydropower and water resource planning and design.
