Undertaken by POWERCHINA's subsidiary SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co, the Saudi Yanbu Phase III Project is the world's largest oil-fired power plant under construction. Upon completion, it is expected to be able to greatly ease the country's power shortage.

As a key livelihood project of Saudi Arabia, the project has attracted wide attention from the local government. Ministers of the environment, agriculture, and water conservancy ministries have inspected the project department three times, speaking highly of the project and praising the workers.

In addition, representatives from the Chinese embassy in Saudi Arabia, the Chinese Consulate-General in Jeddah, and the association of Chinese companies in Saudi Arabia confirmed the contractor's quality and efficient construction after visiting the project site.

The project was signed on May 7, 2017 and broke ground on May 17. To date, units 1, 2, and 3 have been connected to grid, marking 74 percent of the project's completion. The fourth unit is expected to be finished this year.

During construction, SEPCOIII has been focusing on the project's quality based on international standards, security, project management system, and EPC industrial chain resource integration to ensure its efficiency.

In addition, the project has offered more than 13,000 job opportunities to people from 10-plus countries along the Belt and Road.

The project has been dubbed as a benchmark project of China-Saudi Arabia business and trade cooperation. It is also significant in POWERCHINA's efforts to expand its influence in Middle East countries.
