POWERCHINA signs $1.69 billion EPC contract

POWERCHINA subsidiary, Sinohydro Corporation Ltd, formally signed a $1.69 billion EPC contract for the Karuma hydropower project with the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Uganda. The project is located 270 kilometers from the capital Kampala in the northwest of Uganda. Construction work will include the dam, waterways, an underground powerhouse, and an electricity output system. The total installed capacity of the project is 600MW and the construction period is five years. The project will be the largest hydropower project in East Africa. Ugandan President Mutesa unveiled the foundation stone at the project site.
