FIDIC centenary celebrations were held in Barcelona on September 15, 2013. Longtan hydropower station, designed by Hydrochina Zhongnan Engineering Corporation and constructed by Sinohydro, two POWERCHINA subsidiaries, was listed among the 13 global hydropower projects that were major civil engineering projects of the last 100 years.
Longtan hydropower station is located upstream of the Hongshui River and along the Pearl River. The station is one of the three largest hydropower projects after the Three Gorges power station and Xiluodu power station in China. Its total installed capacity is 630 kilowatts. As a landmark project in China’s western development, the construction of the Longtan hydropower Station has set three world records: the highest RCC dam in the world (height of 216.5 meters, length of 836.5 meters and dam concrete totaling 7.36 million cubic meters); the largest scale underground powerhouse (length of 388.5 meters, width of 28.5 meters and height of 74.4 meters); and the ship lift with the highest hoisting height (overall length of 1,650 meters and top hoisting height of 179 meters).
