Fan Jixiang Attends High-level Meeting Between China and Australia

Chinese President Xi Jinping, accompanied by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, paid a visit to Tasmania on November 18. As a representative of Chinese entrepreneurs, Fan Jixiang, chairman of POWERCHINA, was invited to attend the welcome luncheon and the meeting between the leaders and entrepreneurs from China and Australia.

The host, Tasmania Energy Secretary Matthew Groom, introduced POWERCHINA’s international cooperation in Tasmania to Xi Jinping and Tony Abbot.

Tasmania is located at the southernmost tip of Australia with abundant renewable energy resources. Currently, hydropower predominates, supplemented by wind power, gas power and distributed PV, with a total installed capacity of 3.026 million kilowatts. The Tasmanian government’s goal is to achieve 100 percent renewable energy usage by 2020.

During the visit to Tasmania, Fan Jixiang also met with Tasmania Energy Secretary Matthew Groom and Hydro Tasmania CEO Stephen Davy to exchange views on new energy development, construction of power grids, water supply and irrigation, airport expansion, ports and other infrastructure investment and construction, as well as other cooperation Australia.
