On January 22, 2015, Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya attended the commencement ceremony of Nairobi Outer Ring Road Project – a construction project undertaken by POWERCHINA.
In his speech at the ceremony, the president said that the outer ring road would greatly promote local economic development, increase employment and bring benefits to the nearby residents; he also wished the project well in its performance, efficiency and quality.
The project, invested jointly by the African Development Bank and Kenyan Government, was awarded to POWERCHINA by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority on August 19, 2014 with an amount of 85.09 million US dollars and a construction period of 36 months. As per the work scope specified in the contract, a 13km single-lane road will be upgraded into a bidirectional two-lane road including service lanes, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, 3 river-crossing bridges, 3 vehicular overpasses, 2 viaducts and 1 railway-crossing bridge.
