On December 1 local time, President Xi Jinping held talks with Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe in Harare, Zimbabwe. They witnessed the signing of a bilateral economic and technological cooperation agreement and a series of agreements to further cooperate in energy, infrastructure and investment. Yan Zhiyong, the chairman of POWERCHINA, signed an agreement on the expansion of Hwange Thermal Power Station.
The Hwange Thermal Power Station was built in the 1980s with installed capacity of 920MW, only 500MW of which is usable because of ageing equipment and bad maintenance. POWERCHINA has signed the EPC contract of adding two generation units of Hwange Thermal Power Station with Zimbabwe Power Company in October 2014. The installed capacity will be expanded to 1520MW.
