The Accra-Tema Expressway Phase-I Project in Ghana, by the group’s Sinohydro Bureau 8 Co., Ltd., officially commenced on the morning of Oct 11. Twenty government officials including Chai Zhijing, the economic and commercial counselor for the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, and the minister of Roads and Highways, the minister of Transportation, and the director of the Port Administration of Ghana attended the ceremony. Many mainstream news media outlets in Ghana reported the ceremony.
The Accra-Tema Expressway Phase-I Project, located between Ghana’s capital and its largest port, Tema, is one of the nation’s transportation hubs. The former two-way, four-lane route can no longer meet current traffic and transport requirements. The project is mainly aimed at expanding the existing two-way, four-lane expressway to a two-way six-lane one, including the widening of the roundabout and the construction and maintenance of access roads. The Accra-Tema Expressway Phase-I Project is the first road project undertaken by SINOHYDRO Bureau 8 Co., Ltd. in West Africa, and the third project in Ghana following the Ghana PK and the Upper East 330 projects this year. It has laid a good foundation for the company’s diversified development in West Africa.
At the commencement ceremony, the project owners introduced the basic information and the planning process of the project as well as the participating construction units. Accompanied by the boom of the machinery, the equipment bearing the Sinohydro logo commenced construction at the site. At a time when Ghana is in a general election period, the construction of this project has attracted great attention from government departments and people from all sectors of the community.
