He thanked both the Chinese and Kenyan people for their contributions in infrastructure construction, including this project.

During his on-site speech, President Uhuru and Vice President Ruto called on local governmental departments and residents to assist the Chinese company throughout the project and support the construction of the village road, so as to complete the construction task smoothly as scheduled, improve the transportation conditions for local residents, shorten the time needed for travelling between Bomet and Kericho, promote residents’ economic development, and improve their livelihoods.

Undertaken by the Sinohydro Bureau 13 Co., Ltd., the Kenya 192 Village Road project is part of POWERCHINA’s “10 Thousand Kilometers Road Construction Plan”. The project starts at Bomet in Kenya, about 240 kilometers away from the capital city Nairobi, and ends in Kericho. The project, funded by the Kenyan government, is managed by the Kenyan Village Road Bureau and will require a three-year period for construction, one-year period for quality guarantee, and three-year period for maintenance.

With a total construction length of 63 kilometers, the project consists of a bidirectional one-lane route with a width of six meters plus a meter for a shoulder on each side. As an upgrade of the current gravel road, the project mainly involves construction of bridges, box culverts, double-surfacing asphalt, and ancillary facilities. With a contract executed on Nov 17, the project is now under mobilization and preparation.
