Kibwezi-Usueni Road project wins praise from Kenyan President

Updated: July 03,2017

Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta spoke highly of the progress of the Kibwezi-Usueni Road project during a visit to the construction site on June 30.

The Kibwezi-Usueni Road project is a reconstruction project to transfrom the existing macadam road into an asphalt concrete highway under construction by STECOL, an international contractor under Power Construction Cooperation of China (POWERCHINA).

The project commenced in December last year, and is expected to be completed in 2020. As part of the Mombasa-Isiolo-Moyale Corridor linking the south and the north of Kenya, the completion of the project will provide a strong anchor for the economic take-off in Kenya and relieve the traffic pressure in Nairobi, capital of Kenya.

The project has been underway on the Kibwezi-Migwani segment covering a 192-kilometer stretch, which is the first phase of the reconstruction. Kenyatta expressed satisfaction with the progress and looked forward to its completion.
