Argentina's largest PV power station starts construction

The groundbreaking ceremony of a 300MW (megawatt) solar project, built by POWERCHINA, was held in Cauchari, Jujuy province in Argentina on Oct 6. It is the largest photovoltaic (PV) power station in South America. Although Argentine President Mauricio Macri was unable to attend the occasion, he extended his congratulations via remote video.

Yang Wanming, China's ambassador to Argentina; Zhai Chengyu, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy to Argentina; Argentine Finance Minister, Nicolas Dujovne; Argentine Energy Minister, Juan Jose Aranguren and Governor of Jujuy, Gerardo Morelos attended the ceremony.

The event took place in a plateau area, with an altitude of 4,020 meters, in Jujuy province. Nearly 400 government officials, construction workers, representatives of local communities and media gathered at the 700-hectare project site. A newly installed 1mw PV module stood at the scene.

Argentine government officials visited the construction site in lieu of the president. Governor Morelos reported the start-up and progress of the PV project to President Macri.

Ambassador Yang noted that the photovoltaic power station is a key collaboration project between China and Argentina. He hopes that POWERCHINA will do a good job in construction.

Governor Morelos and other Argentine politicians also spoke highly of the achievements in energy and electricity partnerships between the two countries. They praised Chinese companies represented by POWERCHINA for their role in the construction of Argentina’s clean energy industries and infrastructure.
