Updated: May 04,2018

The groundbreaking ceremony of an irrigation system renovation project, one of China's assistance undertakings in Kyrghyzstan, was held in the country on May 3. The project was managed by POWERCHINA HUADONG.

President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov was invited to attend the ceremony. He laid the foundation for the project together with Sun He, commercial counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Kyrgyzstan.

A letter of prayer signed by the President was buried in the cornerstone in accordance with Kyrgyzstan custom.

This is the first agricultural irrigation project implemented by China under the "localization" model, which means the project is constructed by the recipient country. It is also the first infrastructure construction project undertaken by POWERCHINA HUADONG in the Central Asia and Russian-speaking regions.

After the project is completed, it will increase Kyrgyzstan's irrigated area by 5,410 hectares and increase the area of irrigated land with a guaranteed water supply to 22,100 hectares, which will benefit about 40,000 people.

It will help promote the social and economic development of Kyrgyzstan and improve bilateral relations.

The successful groundbreaking ceremony launched China's first agricultural assistance project in Kyrgyzstan and laid a good foundation for follow-up projects.

After the ceremony, Sun had a discussion with the project team of POWERCHINA HUADONG and representatives of construction contractors. He extended his congratulations on the success of the groundbreaking ceremony and gave a high evaluation of the management level and professional quality of the project team. He also put forward higher hopes and requirements for the team's post-order work.
