POWERCHINA subsidiary completes building part of largest granary in Algeria

An inaugural ceremony for the Constantine Granary in Algeria was held in Constantine on June 4, marking the completion of construction of the first part of Algeria's largest granary project.

Abdelkader Bouazghi, Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries of Algeria, the governor of Constantine province and the director of Algerian Inter-professional Office of Cereal (OAIC) attended the ceremony. Multiple Chinese and foreign media outlets also joined the event for interviews.

Abdelkader Bouazghi pressed the activate button for equipment operation, marking the completion of the construction, installation and debugging of the first granary of the project. The minister extended gratitude to the contractor for its excellent construction work, wishing that it would continue its efforts for the rest of the project, to relieve Algeria’s shortage of grain storage and improve the country’s self-sufficiency in grain.”

Built by a subsidiary of POWERCHINA, the concrete granary project covers nine provinces of Algeria, with total storage capacity of 350,000 tons. Each granary is designed with the storage capacity of 30,000 tons or 50,000 tons. Funded by Algeria government, the project is Algeria’s first large-scale one over four decades.

As the first part of the project, the 50,000-ton Constantine granary is equipped with 16 cylindrical concrete silos, with a total height of 54 meters.
