Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili recently visited the 230 MW Gardabani combined cycle power plant contracted by a subsidiary of POWERCHINA.

The prime minister expressed his appreciation for the project's progress. He said at the project's opening ceremony, "China's ‘Belt and Road Initiative' has brought new opportunity to Georgia-China friendly cooperation. China is now one of Goergia's most important business partners."

He also noted that Gardabani combined cycle power plant is Georgia's key energy project, wishing for enhanced cooperation with Chinese companies on energy and chemical industries, as well as more investment from Chinese companies.

The 230MW Gardabani combined-cycle thermal power plant in the Kvemo Kartli region of Georgia was constructed by Hubei Hongyuan Power Engineering Co, a subsidiary of POWERCHINA. The company won the tender early this year.

The plant consists of two gas turbines, two waste heat steam boilers and one steam turbine, and expects to be finished in 16 months.
