The road surrounding Kobuleti, built by POWERCHINA's subsidiary Sinohydro Bureau 16 Co, opened to traffic on June 25, 2018.

The opening ceremony was attended by some 100 guests, including Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze. During the ceremony, the prime minister spoke highly of the project and expressed appreciation for POWERCHINA's contribution to Georgia's economic development.

The road is a key route connecting Europe and Asia and will help ease traffic congestion in Georgia during peak tourism season, cutting the travel time between Kobuleti and Batumi from 70 minutes to 30 minutes.

The road is one of Sinohydro Bureau 16 Co's overseas road projects, which are difficult to build and come with a hefty price tag. With a contract value of $129 million, the 17.964-kilometer road began construction in 2013. The project included a bridge, culvert, channel, earthwork and slope protection.
