Yan Zhiyong, president of POWERCHINA, visited Serbia on July 22-24, during which he met with government officials including Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Chinese ambassador to Serbia Li Manchang, and also conducted the on-site survey on Belgrade city road project.
On July 24, Yan, along with President Aleksandar Vucic, Vice-premier and Minister of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic, inspected the project site of Belgrade city road. Yan introduced POWERCHINA and expressed appreciation for Serbian government's support and help. He pledged that the company will spare no effort to ensure the smooth progress of the project and contribute to the Belt and Road Initiative promotion.
The Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic extended gratitude to China and POWERCHINA for their significant help and support. He noted that Belgrade city road is a key project for Serbia's livelihood. It will benefit locals living along the road and propel Serbia's economic growth.
While meeting the Chinese ambassador to Serbia Li Manchang, Yan firstly showed gratitude to the embassy's support to the company and briefed POWERCHINA's businesses in Serbia. The two sides also changed insights on how to implement the Belt and Road Initiative and boost POWERCHINA's development in Europe.
Yan said that POWERCHINA will offer suggestions and services to the development of Serbia's electric power and infrastructures, advance China-Serbia economic and trade cooperation and foster friendship between the two countries.
Li spoke highly of POWERCHINA's strength and efforts in Serbia, wishing that the company will take the road project as a start in Serbia and enlarge its influence in Serbia and Europe.
During the visit, Yan also hosted a meeting for POWERCHINA subsidiaries in Serbia, listening to working reports of headquarters in Eurasian and subsidiaries in European sub-regions. Yan hoped that the subsidiaries can explore new principals and methods suitable for European market, build a bridge between Asia and Europe and facilitate POWERCHINA's globalization. He also pointed out the necessity of cooperation with local powerful companies for mutual development. Meanwhile, Yan stressed the importance of the work of Party building, adding that the sub-companies shall explore a way that fits European Party organizations and building work, and enhance communication with Chinese embassies in Serbia.
Yan also visited Serbian Energy and Mining Minister Aleksandar Antic and Finance Minister Sinisa Mali, for in-depth exchanges on cooperation.
Belgrade city road is POWERCHINA's first project in Serbia and also one of the achievements of the Fifth Summit of China and Central and Eastern European Countries. The project will involve extension of a 20.34-km four-lane double-way highway, part tunnels and bridges. As part of the Pan European Transport Corridor 10, the project is slated to ease the traffic pressure of Belgrade.
