The construction of a mega sewage treatment plant, an EPC project undertaken by POWERCHINA, started in Bangladesh's capital of Dhaka on Aug 19, 2018.

More than 700 guests, including Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Zuo, Li Guangjun, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of China in Bangladesh, and Lin Weiqiang, president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh, attended the opening ceremony.

"This project will help improve the water quality of Dhaka, strengthen environmental protection, improve local living standards, and promote the sustainable development of Bangladesh's economy and society," said Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who spoke highly of the project while addressing the opening ceremony.

China will offer Bangladesh advanced technology and management experience to support the country's efforts in environmental protection and waste and sewage treatment, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Zuo said at the project's launch ceremony.

"Chinese companies are encouraged to contribute to the environmental protection of Bangladesh. I hope that China and Bangladesh will further cooperation to bring locals more job opportunities and help realize the dream of a golden Bangladesh," he added.

The Dasherkandi Sewage Treatment Plant project, designed with a daily sewage treatment capability of 500,000 cubic meters, is the largest of its kind in Bangladesh and South Asia. It will provide the country with 1,000 jobs during construction. Upon completion, it will help improve Bangladesh’s environment, living standards, and infrastructure.

Bangladesh has long been a key country in POWERCHINA's global layout. The corporation has stepped up efforts to implement the Belt and Road Initiative and contribute to building a beautiful Bangladesh.
