Yan Zhiyong, president of POWERCHINA, attended the China-Cote d'Ivoire Economic Cooperation Forum and met with Cote d'Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara, who was invited to pay a state visit to China and attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation on Aug 31.
President Ouattara and Tang Weibin, Chinese ambassador to Cote d'Ivoire, watched as Yan Zhiyong signed an agreement to invest in the Broto coal-fired plant in San Pedro and an EPC commercial contract with Ivorian company S.ENERGIES.
Located in a port city in southwest Cote d'Ivoire, the Broto coal-fired plant is a super critical clean coal power plant with an installed capacity of 700 megawatts. It is also the largest single project in the country and will be the largest super critical unit power plant in western Africa upon its completion.
As a key power source in Cote d'Ivoire, it will greatly improve the country's power supply structure as well as the stability and safety of the power grid.
Yan said POWERCHINA is willing to strengthen cooperation on power and infrastructure projects, in particular the 700 MW coal-fired power plant with Cote d'Ivoire.
He went on to say that POWERCHINA will cooperate with Cote d'Ivoire to complete the tasks in the preparatory phase of the project and ensure its timely implementation.
POWERCHINA has built up a solid reputation for fulfilling contracts. The Soubre hydroelectric power station built by POWERCHINA in Cote d'Ivoire is a significant project and a milestone in the country's energy industry, Alassane Ouattara said. He also thanked POWERCHINA for its contributions to the Ivorian government and people.
The Broto coal-fired plant is one of the most important energy projects in the country and is a priority for the government. Ouattara hopes that POWERCHINA can step up the pace just a little more on the project.
There is great potential for Cote d'Ivoire's energy and infrastructure, and POWERCHINA is welcome to carry out deeper cooperation with the Ivorian government and enterprises in related fields, he added.
