POWERCHINA signed an EPC contract for the Syvash 250 megawatt wind power project with Norway's NBT in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev on Sept 6.
Ukrainian President Poroshenko and Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ine Marie Eriksen Soreide witnessed the signing ceremony.
Located next to Syvash Lake in South Ukraine's Kherson region, the project, which is funded by NBT and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, will be built by the EPC contractor -- POWERCHINA along with its affiliate Fujian Electric Power Engineering.
The project is subject to EU standards and comprises 64 sets of Nordex 3.9 turbines with a total installed capacity of 250 Megawatts.
It is expected to and start construction on Oct 10 and finish by Dec 31 next year.
The installation will create many new jobs for the large eastern European nation and provide more than one-third of energy in the Kherson region, greatly improving the local power supply, Poroshenko said.
Li Yanming, vice general manager of Power Construction Corporation of China Limited, visited the Chinese ambassador to the Ukraine Du Wei before the signing ceremony, saying POWERCHINA will prevent risks and fulfill its obligation so as to set an example for future cooperation projects between the two countries.

POWERCHINA will actively seek cooperation with local enterprises, Li said when he met Ukraine's First Vice Prime Minister Stepan Kubiv. The vice prime minister said POWERCHINA is welcome to expand business in the Ukraine and he looked forward to more cooperation projects between the two countries.
