China-aided affordable houses break ground in Minsk, Belarus

The China-aided affordable housing project (second phase), broke ground in Minsk, Belarus, on Oct 24, with over 200 guests attending, including Belorussian government officials, Chinese enterprise directors, local citizens, student representatives and Cui Qiming, the Chinese Ambassador to Belarus.

The project is under the management of HydroChina Zhongnan Engineering Corporation, a subordinate of the Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) and the HydroChina Corporation.

In his speech, Ambassador Cui Qiming acclaimed the affordable housing project as a livelihood mission with high expectations from people in both China and Belarus.

The first deputy director of Belarus' Ministry of Construction and the vice-president of Minsk both spoke highly of the support they had received from the Chinese government and expressed their genuine gratitude to the Chinese enterprises participating in the project.

A series of performances then took to the stage to celebrate the special day. Belarus' major news agencies and network media, as well as China's Xinhua News Agency, were there to cover the story.

The first phase of the affordable housing project, which is already in service, contains 16 buildings, with 1,432 suites and a total living area of 78,000 square meters. The second phase will add a further 22 buildings, 1,854 suites and 118,000 square meters of living area.

According to the construction schedule of Zhongnan Engineering Co, phase two of the project will be completed by December 2019.
