Updated: November 15,2018

Laos' Deputy Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone spoke highly of the Boten Beautiful Land Specific Economic Zone, a project undertaken by POWERCHINA's subsidiary Sinohydro Bureau 14 Co, during his visit to the project site.

He and the group inspected the Boten Central Business District (CBD), the duty free shopping center, and the bonded logistics zone and hotel, while learning more about the zone policies, industry planning and investment scale. The project manager also briefed them on the construction progress and environmental protection work.

Siphandone noted that Boten zone is one of 12 Laos' national specific economic zones, the first stop of the China-Laos economic corridor, as well as a strategic cooperation project between Laos and China.

"The Boten zone is a Belt and Road Initiative achievement and signifies the China-Laos friendship," he added, expressing his hope that the zone will strengthen its role as a hub for the China-Laos economic corridor, serve as a benchmark to boost the economic development of northern Laos and speed up the construction of Mohan-Boten Economic Cooperation Zone.

The Boten CBD's first and second phases cover a total area of 500,000 square meters, including apartments, a shopping mall and a hotel.

The buildings, which blend the peninsula's cultural elements with modern features, are suitable for investment, residential and commercial use, as well as tourism.

The CBD is now under construction, with the first-phase of the project project to be finished shortly and the second-phase one in full swing.

Sinohydro Bureau 14 Co has ramped up efforts to push forward the steady progress of the project, which has set an example for economic growth of Luang Nam Tha province and other areas in northern Laos, while also injecting new energy into the country's economic development.
