Sinohydro Bureau 14 Co, a subsidiary of POWERCHINA, achieved breakthrough at the Namee No 1 tunnel along the China-Laos railway on Nov 16, 2018, marking significant progress in overcoming difficult engineering problems on the rail line.
The 352-meter tunnel is located in the Lao capital of Vientiane. The geological conditions of the tunnel area, where much sandstone and mudstone is present, along with problems of less stability and soft rock deformation, have posed safety risks and challenges for the construction project.
Since the building of the tunnel began on June 5, 2017, Sinohydro Bureau 14 Co has paid particular attention to safe construction, prioritizing safety, quality and procedure control. It monitors the tunnel's surrounding rocks and mountains around the clock to ensure complete security.
Due to the tunnel's special and complex geology, the project department invited experts to offer on-site guidance and held multiple meetings to roll out safe construction plans, finally overcoming the difficulties and ensuring smooth progress.
The tunnel's completion will lay a solid foundation for successive projects and support China-Laos railway construction.
The China-Laos railway is being promoted by the leaders of the two countries as a project of interconnectivity. Since the commencement of construction in December 2016, the building of tunnels, bridges, roadbeds and other sections has progressed smoothly.
