An inaugural ceremony for the Djiploho Upstream Storage Reservoir in Equatorial Guinea, built by POWERCHINA subsidiary Sinohydro Engineering Bureau 6, was held on Dec 1, 2018. Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and his wife, together with over 1,000 government officials and locals, attended the ceremony.

The president addressed the ceremony, speaking highly of POWERCHINA for its safe construction procedures and high quality standards.
He said, "In addition to providing Equatorial Guinea with 24-hour uninterrupted and clean electricity, the reservoir has also brought many job opportunities, boosted the country's economic growth, promoted harmonious social development and helped Equatorial Guinea move closer to becoming a modern country."
Obiang cut the ribbon for the project and honored Liu Bao, chairman of Sinohydro Engineering Bureau 6, and Guan Zujin, general manager of the bureau's branch in Africa, with medals commending them for the construction of the reservoir and for helping propel Equatorial Guinea's development.
Chinese Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea Chen Guoyou expressed gratitude to POWERCHINA and thanked the president and government of Equatorial Guinea for their support. He noted that the project is a landmark achievement in China-Equatorial Guinea relations, and will provide Equatorial Guinea's continental region with a stable power supply and inject new energy into the country's development.
He hoped that the Chinese government would enhance ties with Equatorial Guinea, encourage more Chinese companies to come to Equatorial Guinea, and further the bilateral friendship.
Miguel Ángel Ondo Angue, Minister of Mines, Industry & Energy in Equatorial Guinea, said that the reservoir may help reduce local electricity prices and facilitate the country's 2020 Plan.
According to Liu Bao, the company will strive to help build a shared future for mankind, strengthen energy cooperation with Equatorial Guinea, and improve the two country's business relationship.

Djiploho Hydropower Station, constructed by Sinohydro Engineering Bureau 6 of POWERCHINA, now supplies 90 percent of electric power to Equatorial Guinea's continental areas. It began construction in April 2008 and became operational on October 11, 2011. It has offered a sufficient power supply while reducing environmental pollution.
In 2013, a reservoir was built upstream from the power plant to help deal with seasonal changes in rainfall and the resulting uneven power generation.
