World's biggest waste incineration power generation project in operation

The second phase of the waste incineration power generation project of Shanghai Laogang Renewable Energy Utilization Center was officially put into operation on June 28.

Built by Shanghai Electric Power Construction Co, a subsidiary of POWERCHINA, it is the world's biggest waste incineration power generation project.

As an important measure for Shanghai's sustainable ecology development, the project has built eight garbage incineration lines with a daily capacity of 750 metric tons and set up three 50 megawatt (MW) condensing steam turbine generator sets.

It is expected to be fully operational by October this year and can handle 6,000 tons of household garbage every day.

Together with the first phase of the Laogang project, the total amount of waste incineration treatment will reach 9,000 tons per year, achieving a total power generation of 900 million kWh by waste incineration every year.

In order to build a major environmental protection project with world-class standards, Shanghai Laogang Renewable Electric Power Construction Co has spared great efforts since the start of construction to successfully complete the major engineering nodes of the projects, such as the lifting of steel beams, the positioning of generator stators, and the positioning of steam drums.

With the implementation of the Shanghai municipal regulations on domestic waste management on July 1, garbage will be further classified, making waste incineration power generation more stable.

The Shanghai Laogang project will do its best to install waste terminal disposal equipment, contributing to the sustainable development of Shanghai.
