During the opening ceremony, Mongolian Prime Minister Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh hailed the road project as a key one for his country's government to improve people's livelihoods. It was also a celebration present to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China-Mongolia diplomatic ties, he added.

The project is of great significance to improve the traffic ability of Ulaanbaator, capital of Mongolia, and its neighboring area, as well as ensure traffic safety, the prime minster pointed out during his opening speech. He also extended his thanks to Chinese constructors for their efforts in ensuring the high quality and efficiency of the project's construction.

Scheduled to be completed next year, the road will become an important part of the AH3 Asian Highway, connecting the east and southeast of Mongolia, as well as empowering the economic corridor construction between Mongolia, China, and Russia.

Xing Haiming, Chinese ambassador to Mongolia, said that based on the friendly cooperation between China and Mongolia, China has provided preferential loans and voluntary assistance to Mongolia, supporting Mongolia's infrastructure construction and public welfare efforts. The road marks a new milestone for the friendship between the two countries.

Located in the southeast of Ulaanbaatar, the 20.9 kilometer Nalaikh Road upgrading project is the only trunk line and transportation hub connecting Ulaanbaatar and Nalaikh district with the eastern provinces of Mongolia.

The existing road has been used for nearly 50 years. It has only two lanes and is in serious disrepair. The upgraded road will be changed to four lanes in one direction, which will greatly ease the congestion of the road section, as well as stimulate economic growth for China, Mongolia, and Russia.
