The groundbreaking ceremony for the Lot 8 section – the upgrading of selected feeder roads in the Ashanti and Western Regions -- of Ghana Road & Bridge Project was held at Nyinahinn town in Ashanti Region on Nov 22.
At the ceremony, Mahamudu Bawumia, vice president of Ghana noted that, Ghana is rich in mineral resources, but the people live poor lives. He said road transportation was a serious problem faced by Ghana. The poor road conditions had greatly restricted the development of the country and its rich resource advantages could not be transformed into the driving force for national development, he added.
He said Nyinahin town has 70 percent of Ghana's bauxite resources. As a supporting part of Ghana's bauxite development project, the project will lay a solid foundation for the development of its bauxite mining, alumina refinery and electrolytic aluminum industry, promoting the development of Nyinahin town and even Ghana.
