On Dec 12, Indonesian President Joko Widodo inspected the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project in Indonesia and said he expected it to be completed by the end of 2021. The project is being built by POWERCHINA.
With the total investment of $6 billion, the project's transportation facilities will be interconnected with the region's transportation network and the related construction land problems have been resolved, the president said.

"Infrastructure construction must not be delayed, and it determines the competitiveness of a country," he said.
The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project is an iconic project of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Indonesia’s global maritime fulcrum strategy, officials said.
It is the first high-speed railway in Southeast Asia, which will have a top design speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

POWERCHINA said that since construction began on June 9, 2018, it has paid close attention to the on-site management, ensured the construction safety and quality, laying a solid foundation for the completion by the end of 2021.
With a length of 142.3 km, it is the first project that has gone global for China's high-speed railways – which is exporting its technical standards, surveys and designs, engineering construction, equipment manufacturing, materials supply to operation management and talent training.
After the project is completed, the travel time from Jakarta to Bandung will be shortened from more than three hours to about 40 minutes.

It will also greatly improve the local traffic conditions, drive the development of industries along the line and enhance the level of regional economic and social development.
