The ground-breaking ceremony of the KyaukPhyu Gas-fired Combined Cycle Power Station Project, POWERCHINA investment, was held on Feb 15, marking an important step forward in the project's construction.

Leaders of the Myanmar National Power Generation Company, Myanmar Power Dispatching Center and the project shareholder company, Supreme, attended the ceremony.

At 8:30 am, project preparation works including supplies of water and electricity, a road and ground levelling were officially started, and construction machinery started road excavation on the site.

The project, located in KyaukPhyu town, Rakhine state in western Myanmar, will have a power supply capacity of about 135MW and use gas-steam combined cycle technology. After completion, the project will generate about one billion KWH of power on-grid and operate for 25 years.

The power station is a major infrastructure project in KyaukPhyu, and it will impact on local people's livelihoods and affect industrial development. The completion and operation of the power station will have a positive impact on the development of KyaukPhyu Special Economic Zone.
