Updated: June 24,2020

The groundbreaking ceremony for the 2×350MW coal-fired power station project in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, was held on Aug 18.

Sinohydro Bureau 8 Co, a subsidiary of POWERCHINA, will construct the project's third-party civil engineering laboratory. The project is the first of its kind undertaken by the company.

The development is another technical service cooperation project between Sinohydro Bureau 8 Co and China Huadian Hong Kong Company, following the test center project of Stung Russei Chrum Hydropower Station in Cambodia.

This partnership reflects Sinohydro Bureau 8 Co's good corporate reputation and standing with China Huadian Hong Kong Company – with both companies sharing a vision of future corporate development.

The coal-fired power station is northeast of Sihanoukville, about 220 kilometers away from the capital Phnom Penh.

The project is being developed under the building-owning-operation (BOO) mode and will consist of two 350,000-kilowatt supercritical coal-fired units, one 8,000-metric-ton berth and one 2,000-ton large and heavy cargo berth.

Annual power generation is expected to be 5.2 billion kilowatt-hours, and the first unit will go into operation at the end of 2022.

It is currently the largest power plant under construction in Cambodia.
