The technological transformation of the Golovnaya Hydropower Station in Tajikistan, which was overseen by Sinohydro Bureau 16 Co and Chengdu Engineering Co Ltd of POWERCHINA, was completed on Nov 10. The third hydro-generator unit was successfully replaced and entered the 72 hour trial operation phase safely.
The Golovnaya Hydropower Station is equipped with six hydroelectric generating units and completed its construction in 1964. Since its operation time has exceeded 50 years, various indicators of the station were extremely unstable. Its water canals, irrigation canals, and metal structures were in urgent need of technological transformation.
On Oct 17, 2016, Sinohydro Bureau 16 Co and Chengdu Engineering Co Ltd successfully won the bidding for the technical transformation project of the Golovnaya Hydropower Station due to its renowned technical strengths and excellent market reputation.
The project was the first hydropower station technical renovation project won by POWERCHINA in Central Asia and its first energy project in Tajikistan.
The main tasks of the project included replacing five of the six hydroelectric generating units and their auxiliary equipment, the repair of the civil engineering and metal structure of the power plant and channel, as well as the training of power station operators.
On Oct 25, 2018 and Sept 1, 2019, the first and second units of the project successfully completed the power generation task before the contract period. The commissioning of the third unit for power generation will effectively improve the power consumption and heating problems of hundreds of thousands of people in the surrounding area in the winter.
