Kuwait's South Phase-III Power Plant handed over

Updated: December 18,2020

The Az-Zour South Phase-III Combined-Cycle Power Plant in Kuwait -- built by SEPCOIII, a subsidiary of POWERCHINA -- officially obtained its project handover certificate issued by the owner on Dec 16, marking the successful completion of the project.

With a total capacity of 260 megawatts, the power plant project is an extension of the Az-Zour South Single-Cycle Power Station, located about 120 kilometers south of Kuwait city, capital and largest city of Kuwait.

The electricity produced by the power plant project is mainly being used for the construction of Kuwait city and the development of its oil and gas resources.

In 2016 -- with its sound corporate health, excellent project execution performance and international brand influence -- POWERCHINA undertook the construction of the project in the form of an engineering procurement construction, or EPC, contract. In so doing, it became the first Chinese company to enter the EPC market for Kuwait's power stations.

During the construction of the project, POWERCHINA actively fulfilled its corporate mission and social responsibilities -- creating more than 1,000 local jobs and helping to drive local economic and social development.
