Soubre Hydropower Station is located southwest of Côte d'Ivoire, which is the core project of the National Energy Balance Strategy of Côte d'Ivoire. It is the "Three Gorges Project" of Côte d'Ivoire, whose operation model serves an irreplaceable "lighthouse" effect in West Africa. The power station is installed with 3 Francis turbine units of 90 MW and 1 bulb turbine miniature unit of 5 MW, with a total installed capacity of 275 MW, and the capacity of its reservoir is 83 million cubic meters. The project could generate electricity of 1,190 GWh per year. The multipurpose project consists of the powerhouse, spillway, and embankment dam of 4.5 kilometers, etc; its transmission and transformation project includes 380-kilometer lines and the upgrade and reconstruction of the mating transformer substation.

The project was completed on May 12, 2018 and its first unit was put into production and generated electricity on May 25, 2017, eight months earlier than the intended completion date. In the same year, both the second and third units were completed, six months earlier than the intended completion date, which sets a new record in the hydropower construction area in the whole world. Because of its prominent contribution to Côte d'Ivoire, the project won the honorary certificate of the Best Project Award in the energy area of Côte d'Ivoire in 2018, the China-Côte d'Ivoire Cooperation Development Award issued by the Chinese Embassy in Côte d'Ivoire for three times in 2015, 2017 and 2019, and won the POWERCHINA High-Quality Project Award and Luban Prize of China Construction Engineering (Overseas Project) in 2019.
