POWERCHINA has recently signed an EPC contract for the 600 MW Monsoon wind power project in Laos and the cooperation agreement for its Phase Ⅱ.
The project is located in Sekong and Attapeu, southern provinces of Laos. It includes a 600 MW wind farm, a set-up switchyard and transmission lines. It is the first wind power project in Laos and the largest single wind power project undertaken by Chinese enterprises overseas.
The project will transmit electricity to Vietnam when completed, the first of its kind in Laos to realize cross-border transmission of new energy power. It will relieve the electricity tension in central Vietnam and help Laos further build its vision of a "Southeast Asia Storage Battery".
This project is another breakthrough of POWERCHINA in practicing the green energy revolution and promoting energy transformation in Laos. It is expected to cut carbon emissions of 35 million tons over its lifetime.
POWERCHINA has grown into one of the most influential engineering contractors and power investors in Laos since it entered the Laos market in 1996. By the end of 2021, the company had more than 150 completed and under-construction projects in the country, with a cumulative contract value of about 51.6 billion yuan ($7.4 billion).
POWERCHINA has invested in and built many major projects in Laos, such as the Nam Ou Cascade Hydropower Stations and the China-Laos Railway, which have strongly promoted the economic and social development of Laos and contributed to the promotion of China-Laos economic and trade cooperation.
