The Soubre Hydroelectric Power Station, located in the southwestern part of Cote d'Ivoire, is a core project of the Cote d'Ivoire's national energy balance strategy, seen as the country's "Three Gorges Dam Project," the world's biggest hydropower plant located in China.
It has a total installed capacity of 275 megawatts, with a reservoir capacity of 83 million cubic meters, generating an average of 1.19 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
The project commenced on Sept 24, 2013, with the first unit being commissioned for power generation eight months ahead of schedule on May 25, 2017. The second and third units were also commissioned six months ahead of schedule in the same year, setting new records in the field of global hydropower construction.
The project was completed on May 12, 2018. In the same year, it received the best engineering award in the field of energy in Côte d'Ivoire, and in 2019, it achieved a dual honor by winning the "China Electric Power Prime-quality Project Award" and the " China Construction Engineering Luban Prize" in the division of overseas projects.
