The Hong Kong International Airport Third Runway Project is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the history of Hong Kong. It is an essential component of the vision to transform Hong Kong from "a city having an airport" into "a city powered by its airport".

The project involves land reclamation to the north of the existing Hong Kong International Airport Island, expanding it by approximately 650 hectares, as well as the addition of a third runway. The volume of the construction work is equivalent to creating a new airport.

Construction began in December 2019 and was completed in July 2022.

Once the project is fully operational, it is expected to handle up to 120 million passengers annually and facilitate the transport of up to 10 million metric tons of cargo each year.

This development will provide new impetus to Hong Kong International Airport and the overall economy of Hong Kong, enhancing connectivity for both people and goods between Hong Kong and other cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, fostering the growth of industries such as aviation, tourism, culture, retail, exhibitions, and trade in Hong Kong.
