A view of the Patuca III Hydropower Station in Honduras.
The Patuca III Hydropower Station, located in the city of Patuca in eastern Honduras, is the first large-scale hydropower project built in Honduras in over three decades. It also represents the first time that China used Chinese financing in a country that had not yet established diplomatic relations with it.
The project consists of a dam, power plant, diversion tunnels, transmission lines, and a 230KV substation, with an installed capacity of 104 megawatts.
Construction on the project officially commenced in September 2015, and it was successfully completed and connected to the grid in December 2020.
The station provides a reliable source of electricity for Honduras and has contributed significantly to the region's economic development.
