The Lower Sesan II Hydropower Station is currently the largest hydropower project in Cambodia. With a total length of 6,500 meters, it has been dubbed "Asia's longest dam" and the Cambodia's "Three Gorges Project."
The project has a total installed capacity of 400,000 kilowatts and utilizes eight 50,000-kilowatt bulb turbines manufactured in China. It boasts a rated water head and single-unit capacity that are among the top in the world of its kind.
Construction on the project began in October 2013 and it was put into operation in October 2018. The project provides Cambodia with 2 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually, accounting for over one-fifth of Cambodia's national electricity generation, powering Cambodia's economic development.
The project has received extensive coverage in both domestic and international media and has garnered significant attention from the Cambodian government. Hun Sen, then-prime minister of Cambodia, visited the site multiple times and praised the station.
