Pakistani President Attends Completion Ceremony of Darawat Dam

On March 9, 2013, the completion ceremony of Darawat Dam, an EPC project in Pakistan constructed by Sinohydro, a subsidiary of POWERCHINA, was held in TEDA area of Sindh province, Pakistan. Zardari, Pakistan's President attended the ceremony and spoke highly of Sinohydro for its contribution to Pakistan's hydropower development and the friendship between China and Pakistan.

In his speech, Zardari said that the construction of Darawat Dam shall not only bring thousands of employment opportunities into Pakistan, but also have an effective control of flood hazards in the region and promote agricultural development within an area of 100km2 around the Project; meanwhile, it will effectively mitigate Pakistan's energy crisis and help to substantially solve Pakistan's economic problems and energy shortage.

Darawat Dam is located in TEDA area of Sindh Province, about 120km to Karachi. The dam is 46.5m high, 306m long, and developed for flood control, irrigation, power generation, environment improvement and tourism.

Pakistan is one of POWERCHINA's traditional markets outside China, and POWERCHINA has established a good brand image and credit there. Despite those adverse factors such as severe shortage of power supply, austere social economy, serious safety and security situation.

POWERCHINA still endeavored to achieve final completion of the project, and the success of the project will give POWERCHINA more chances to further expand its operation in Pakistan and promote Chinese enterprises' image and impact there.
