The Taweelah Desalination Plant in Abu Dhabi, UAE, built by POWERCHINA using an EPC model, officially received its commercial operation letter from its water purchasing party and owner on March 13.

The Taweelah Desalination Plant, which is the world's largest reverse osmosis seawater desalination plant, integrates the most advanced seawater desalination technologies from over 10 countries. The project has already completed 25 million safe working hours.

During the plant performance test period, the plant’s specific energy consumption value was only 2.77 kWh/m³, which is approximately 10 percent lower than the contractual specific energy consumption value of 3.10 kWh/m³ and setting a new record for the lowest specific energy consumption value of its kind globally. This achievement has been highly praised by both the owner and investors.

The commercial operation of the Taweelah plant has further expanded POWERCHINA's brand influence and laid the foundation for the company to further explore the UAE market.
