The Notice to Proceed for the 1,600 Megawatts Surkhandarya Combined Cycle Gas-fired Power Plant in Uzbekistan, constructed by POWERCHINA, was officially issued. It means to officially commence of the project.

Located in southern Uzbekistan, with a net output of approximately 1,600 MW, the combined cycle gas-fired power plant is expected to commence commercial operation in 2027.

The project utilizes advanced gas-fired power generation technology to maximize energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and minimize environmental pollution, making it key to addressing Uzbekistan's electricity shortages and energy transition efforts.

POWERCHINA previously built Uzbekistan's first large-scale solar and wind power projects.

The Navoi 100 MW Solar Power Plant, with 298,928 solar panels and generating 278 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, was connected to grid on Aug 27, 2021, under the witness of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, president of Uzbekistan.

The Zerafshan 500 MW Wind Farm will be the largest operational wind power plant in Central Asia, providing sufficient electricity for 500,000 households and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1.1 million metric tons annually. Abdulla Aripov, prime minister of Uzbekistan, attended the commissioning ceremony for the first wind turbine on Nov 25, 2023.
