POWERCHINA won three sections in the bid for the Transmission and Substation Project of Belo Monte hydro-power station with a total contract value of nearly 950 million yuan ($156.37 million).The project is intended to transmit power from Belo Monte hydropower project and has a two-way, six bundle, transmission line running 2,092 kilometers. It was divided into eight sections in the bidding and SEPCO I, POWERCHINA, won three of them, with the highest contract value among all the bidders.
When completed, the Transmission and Substation Project of Belo Monte hydropower station will be the first in Latin America and the fourth in the world using 800 kV ultra-high voltage DC transmission and transformation technology. It will transmit power from the Northwest to the high demand region in the Southeast of the country.
