Port Qasim's power project starts

On May 6, the ground breaking ceremony of the Port Qasim Coal Fired Power Project, the first energy project of the China-Pakistan economic corridor, was held in Karachi. Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif; Sun Weidong, Chinese ambassador to Pakistan; Sheikh Jassim; and Fan Jixiang, chairman of POWERCHINA attended the ceremony.

In the ceremony, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif congratulated the successful conduction of the ceremony, and expressed fervent wishes to the inauguration of the Port Qasim Power Project and China-Pakistan economic corridor.

Chairman Fan praised the success of the ceremony. He said that the Port Qasim Coal Fired Power Project is an important energy development project promoted by the China-Pakistan economic corridor according to the market mechanism. It will go into operation and generate electricity in 2017, which will ease the power shortage in Pakistan. POWERCHINA will build a professional team to work on project investment and financing, implementation and management under the elaborate plan.
