POWERCHINA Signs Contract for LAMU Coal-fired Power Plant

On June 8, Kenya LAMU 3X350MW power plant EPC contract and financial advisory agreement signing ceremony was held in the headquarter of POWERCHINA.

Yan Zhiyong, chairman of POWERCHINA; Zheng Wanchun, vice president of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China; Cha Weimin, deputy general manager of China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation; H.E. Mr. Michael Kinyanjui, the Ambassador of Kenya and Christopher Kirubi, the owner of LAMU 3×350 MW power plant, attended the ceremony.

Chairman Yan said that POWERCHINA will cooperate with Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation to build a professional team to work on the power plant under the agreement.

The installed capacity of the coal-fired power plant will be 1050MW, which will improve the reliability of power grid in Kenya. The construction is expected to create thousands of jobs for machine operators, engineers and administrators.
