Yan Zhiyong attends G20 energy meeting

On June 29-30, 2016, the G20 Energy Ministerial Meeting was held in Beijing. Officials from 27 countries and relevant international organizations gathered in the Chinese capital with the common goal of pushing the development of global energy sustainability. Zhang Gaoli, Chinese Vice Premier, and Shamshad Akhtar, Under-Secretary General of the United Nations, attended the meeting, and Nuer Baikeli, Vice Chairman of NDRC and Head of National Energy Administration, hosted the opening ceremony. Yan Zhiyong, Chairman of POWERCHINA, was invited to the meeting and related activities.

As one of the specialized ministerial meetings before the G20 Hangzhou Summit, the meeting was themed “Shaping a Low-Carbon, Smart and Sharing Energy Future”. The meeting was hosted by National Energy Administration and prepared by POWERCHINA.

On June 29, Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli pointed out that G20 is an important platform for global governance during the opening ceremony. The G20 will be built into an open platform for sharing energy technological innovation, energy industrial cooperation, experience exchanges and global energy governance in the future. With installed capacities in hydropower, wind power and photovoltaic power ranking first in the world, China is willing to enhance cooperation and exchanges with other countries in new energy resources.

Yan Zhiyong pointed out in his speech during the welcome dinner that POWERCHINA, with its experience in hydropower, design and construction, and capabilities in investment and management, is a comprehensive group company providing one-stop services in terms of investment, financing, design, planning, building, equipment manufacturing, operation and management of hydropower and water conservation engineering and infrastructure.

With leading capacity and performance in power industry across the globe, POWERCHINA boasts world-leading technologies in the design, planning and building of infrastructures for renewable energy resources like hydropower, wind power and solar power.

POWERCHINA will enhance cooperation with governments and enterprises around the world and make more contributions to promoting the sustainable development of “Low-Carbon, Smart and Sharing” energy, dealing with global climate change and safeguarding the sustainable development of economy, society and environment.

The heads of POWERCHINA, including Yan Zhiyong, also met with leaders from other countries attending the meeting, such as the Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, the Mexican Secretary-General of National Energy Administration and embassy officials of Mexico in China, the Argentinean Minister of Energy and Mines, the ambassador and other embassy officials, the Indonesian Director-General of Electricity Department of Energy and Mines Ministry and the COO of Energy Department of South Africa. With in-depth exchanges of views, each side agreed to further strengthen coordination and cooperation and make progress for the projects in joint efforts.

During the meeting, Yan Zhiyong answered questions on POWERCHINA’s international capacity, international business performance, overseas risk prevention and control as well as other aspects based on the strategy of the Belt and Road Initiative in interviews with media, such as CCTV, China Daily, Economic Daily and China Reform Daily.

He said that as the largest power construction enterprise with the most complete industrial chain in the world, POWERCHINA will actively implement the strategy of the Belt and Road Initiative.

POWERCHINA is at present carrying out 1,863 projects on survey, design and consultation, engineering contracts, equipment trade and supply, etc. in 116 countries and regions, and providing one-stop services for more than 30 countries in energy planning of electricity, rivers, etc., focusing on water conservation and power construction, and covering highways, rail transportation, municipal services, housing construction, water treatment, etc. Thus, a diversified market structure featured with “Great Engineering and Great Building” has been established.

In the two-day meeting, participants also talked about issues such as opportunities and challenges for global energy development, energy technology and innovation, demand of energy accessibility and current policies.

The heads of CREEI, POWERCHINA International Limited and POWERCHINA Resources Limited also attended the meeting.
