An inspection group led by China Railway Corp general-manager Lu Dongfu visited the construction site of the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway in Indonesia from May 2-4.
Yan Zhiyong, chairman of POWERCHINA, one of the key construction companies, also took part in the inspection visit.
At the No 1 tunnel construction site, the delegation listened to a work report on the progress, conditions, equipment and timeline of the project and shared China's achievements and experience in high-speed railway projects.
During a meeting on the project, Lu expressed gratitude to the Indonesian Ministry of State-owned Enterprises for its reception and showed satisfaction with the construction progress and quality. He also expressed his full confidence in completing the Jakarta-Bandung project on time. "The Chinese team will provide all-around support for the Jakarta-Bandung railway project and make the project a highlight symbolizing China's highest specifications and standards," Lu added.
Indonesian SoE Minister Rini Soemarno expressed her appreciation for POWERCHINA's outstanding efforts to advance the building of the No 1 tunnel along the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed railway. Besides, she promised to provide field help for Chinese builders and expressed her best wishes for continuous and rapid advancement of the project by both Indonesia and China to assure the railway's scheduled delivery.
The delegation also communicated with Chinese and Indonesian builders, asking about their living conditions, general treatment and vacation time. It called for more care and activities to improve workers' physical and mental health and stimulate their work enthusiasm.
Yan hosted a symposium during the visit and put forward five suggestions: developing a full understanding of the project's importance and complexity and of the desirability of promoting POWERCHINA's brand in overseas markets; overall arrangement of construction work and improvement of management level; respect for local policies and regulations, religious belief, folk customs and traditional culture and environmental protection; effective internal and external communication and lean management; and strong control to assure safety and quality.
The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway is a landmark project symbolizing the friendly partnership between China and Indonesia in line with the Belt and Road Initiative. It is also the first project of the "going globe" strategy for the Chinese high-speed railway industry.
The 142-kilometer-long railway, with a design speed of up to 350 km/h, will connect Indonesia's capital city Jakarta with the country's fourth largest city Bandung upon completion in three years.
POWERCHINA is responsible for 15 difficult working stages out of 22, including those on the tunnel and super-large bridge.
