POWERCHINA, the world's largest power engineering contractor, has donated 1.63 billion kip ($190,119) of money and relief materials to the flood-hit area in Laos after a dam collapsed, triggering flash flood on July 23.

The under-construction dam of Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydroelectric power project in Laos collapsed at 8:00 pm local time on July 23, releasing five billion cubic meters of floodwater in hours, which resulted in a large amount of people dead, missing and homeless.

As the largest Chinese company in Laos, POWERCHINA immediately joined the rescue work in the disaster-stricken area and called for its subsidiaries in Laos to donate money and relief materials. According to statistics, the subsidiary companies donated 1.43 billion kip of money as well as 200 million kip of relief materials.

A spokesman of the Laos Ministry of National Defense appreciated the aid from POWERCHINA and other rescue teams at a press briefing on the progress of disaster relief on July 28, speaking highly of the positive roles of those helps.

Now a string of relief materials are still being transported to the disaster area to support local relief operations.
