The Morocco Noor III 150 MW Solar-Thermal Power Plant, the world's biggest solar tower power plant, was connected to the grid on Aug 15, 2018. The event was witnessed by the project owners, including ACWA Power, Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) and Morocco's state power utility ONEE.
The successful connection was attributed to joint efforts from POWERCHINA's subsidiary SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Corporation as well as other supporters.
The Morocco Noor III 150 MW Solar-Thermal Power Plant has the largest installed capacity of any solar parabolic tower power plant in the world. It is also the first solar tower to adopt the hybrid structure of concrete and steel and is the highest solar-thermal tower in the world.
The project has brought over 6,000 jobs to Morocco, helped Moroccan companies train talents in electricity power equipment and power engineering construction, and promoted the upgrading of Morocco's technology and industry.
The project will help alleviate Morocco's strained electricity supply and will also help Chinese companies master cutting-edge solar-thermal technologies and propel the development of China's solar-thermal power plants.
