A delegation consisting of more than 100 Congolese officials led by Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila and Prime Minister Bruno Tshibala visited Sicomines on Sept 14. Sicomines is a copper and cobalt mining joint venture between Chinese companies China Railway Group and POWERCHINA and Congolese state mining company Gecamines.
Joseph Kabila expressed his appreciation for the company's contribution to the local economy and society.

Kabila visited the production line, safety and environmental protection facilities and the garden campsite and watched the company's promo film. He spoke highly of Sicomines's achievements in recent years.
The president also praised Sicomines's efforts in improving the environment around the mining area, offering training programs to Congolese employees, promoting communication between Chinese and Congolese workers, providing local jobs, sharpening the company's competitiveness and helping it build an image as an international mining company.
Comparing the company to his beloved daughter, Kabila expressed his full support for a package of cooperation projects he had initiated and promoted.
He hopes that Sicomines can further expand its presence in media and make its contributions more known.
As a model enterprise promoted at this year's Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the previous Johannesburg Summit of FOCAC in 2015, Sicomines is expected to play a leading role in increasing investment in mining, agriculture, infrastructure and facilitating local economic and social development in the Congo, he stressed.
