As of 24:00 on Sept 24, the total cumulative power generation capacity of the Kamchay Hydropower Station in Cambodia exceeded three billion kWh, setting a new record with 2,444 days of safe production.

Located on the Kamchay River's trunk stream in southeastern Cambodia, about 150 km away from the country's capital city Phnom Penh, the hydropower station has a generating capacity of 194.1 megawatts, with an average annual power generation of 498 GWh.
The project aims to help prevent floods, improve irrigation, boost tourism and improve ecological protection. It is the Cambodian government's first build-operate-transfer hydropower plant and is designed to meet the needs of national economic development.
The hydropower facility was fully funded and constructed by POWERCHINA for $340 million under a build-operate-transfer contract. It started construction on Sept 18, 2007 and was put into commercial operation on Aug 1, 2012.
The project was POWERCHINA's first and largest overseas BOT hydropower project. Hailed as the Three Georges of Cambodia by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, it was the largest foreign investment project in Cambodia at the time.
The power station has a positive and far-reaching impact on Cambodia's power and energy structure, bridging the gap between the country's power supply and demand and promoting infrastructure construction, local employment, transportation and tourism.
The project is an important investment in POWERCHINA's globalization strategy led by the Belt and Road Initiative.
POWERCHINA has been awarded the title of "Excellent Cooperative Unit" by the Electricity Authority of Cambodia many times and has been highly praised by the local government and local communities.
