The delivery ceremony for four bridges repaired by Chinese companies took place in Laos on Sept 26.
POWERCHINA, the world's largest power engineering contractor, was awarded certificates for its outstanding contribution in aiding flood-hit area in Laos.
The citations were signed by Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and handed over by Lao Minister of Public Works and Transport, Bounchanh Sinthavong. The Chinese Ambassador to Laos, Wang Wentian, was also there to witness the ceremony.
On July 23, the under-construction dam of Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydroelectric power project in Laos collapsed, causing destructive floods in southeastern Laos' Attapu province.
POWERCHINA rescue teams responded quickly to repair the four severely damaged bridges in the disaster-stricken area. It took just 40 days for POWERCHINA to rebuild the bridges, with the repair team finishing the work in record time.
As the first Chinese company to enter the flood-hit area, POWERCHINA also took charge of the logistical support, including relief materials, equipment and technology.
Employees of the company volunteered to donate 1.43 billion kip ($160,000) and 14 experienced experts from the company were invited by the Lao Government to work on other emergency measures.
The four bridges were widely praised because they not only activated the almost paralyzed transportation system, but will continue to help locals in reconstructing their homes and restoring their lives.
